More of May

Just when I thought May could not get more packed into it, I was fooled again. Last week I had 3 funerals in 3 days. First, one of our good Fire Department friends was killed on the job at Timp Cave. He worked on the crew for the park. They were making sure the path was free of rocks, and somehow he went over the edge, falling about 500 feet to his death. That same day another friend, who we were in the same ward for years, passed away. She was born the same year as I was, and her kids and mine grew up together. Those funerals were Tues and Wed of last week. Then on that Saturday, my former mother-in-law passed away and her funeral was Thurs.
Saturday was our community Fireman's breakfast. 50 year tradition.
Here are Marian and the boys with Smoky the Bear. Marian leaned back just as I snapped the picture, and we missed Jackson's face. Ryan and Jackson on "Old Joe", the 1942 Fire Engine
And Ryan in the driver seat of the 2009 "tiller" engine.
Yesterday we took the boys with us to the cemetaries in Salt Lake. Paul got a new (to us) truck, so we took it for it's maiden voyage. When we got back, Jackson decided to climb the ladder. It is a big extension ladder that is leaning on the shed. He climbed up the ladder and onto the roof of the shed. I could not go get him, as I was in a dress and sandals. Paul had to get him off. The ladder will be moved today. 2-year-olds think they are invincible. I believe that lasts until they are at least 21 or 25. At least through the teen years.
Today the favorite toys are the toilet plunger and toilet scrub brush. Is there anything dirtier in the house?

Busy month

It is almost Memorial Day and we woke up to a snowstorm this morning. The weatherman said snow at 6,000 feet, and we are not that high here. It is crazy!
The month has been a busy one with family activities and everything else we have to do.
Kelsey turned 12 on the 3rd, and graduated from Primary and into Young Women's. She is growing up so fast.
For Mother's Day, Jennie and Marian took me for a pedicure and we all three were treated.
After our pedicure, Jennie and I went to Dora's to help with Kelsey's birthday party. She had 18 guests. What a party! Brave parents!!!!!
Paul and Dora set up the party games, with the "Minute to Win It" theme. They made 4 teams and the girls competed in 4 different activities. Jennie, me, Paul, and Dora each conducted a booth with a game. In the end the winner from each group had a face-off, doing a bobblehead. Here is Kelsey demonstrating for the 4 winners, what they had to do.
19 girls, along with Jennie and Hayden on the rocking horse.
She got lots of t-shirts. Too bad it is the end of the school year, and not
the beginning. She will have a good start on her school clothes for Jr High, though. Maclay did not want to have his picture taken. He does not like the flash.
Last Wednesday Kelsey and Kambree had their spring dance review.
In this picture, Kelsey is on the far right. Both their teams did well in competition this spring.
Kelsey has a very distinct style. Even though she is doing exactly what the rest of the team is doing, you can pick her out, just knowing her style.
Kambree is in the middle.
These are the team "trophies" Each dancer got one of these glass bricks. They have the colors of the costumes to highlight them.
Hayden got right into the music, too.
On Friday Kylie had her figure skating spring review.
Here is her dance team. Kylie is 2nd from the left.
Hayden, Kambree and Jennie.

Hayden has been playing with the beads the past few days. Ryan and Jackson have decided they are fun to play with again. Here we have a "tire" an "O", a "Zero", a "steering wheel", or a "hula hoop" depending upon what the imagination dictates at the moment.
And Austin is sitting in 3rd place in High School rodeo, with State Finals this weekend.
This is his last ride. Picture was taken by his girlfriend, Erinn.
Tomorrow is Kylie's birthday and Thursday is Jeff's. This weekend is Memorial Day, and then the month is over. Whew!!!
And June does not look any better!

Is it really May?

Is it May or March? The trees and grass look like May, the weather feels more like March. Warm one day, cold the next. Snow, rain, sunshine and wind. It is hard to know whether to wear t-shirts or sweat shirts. Today the boys had on short sleeved t-shirts and sweat pants. Ryan wanted to wear his night shirt t-shirt, so Jackson had to also. They ran off with my slippers and Marian's tennis shoes, so had to take this picture. They are so funny.
Busy month for birthdays and anniversaries. Monday Kelsey turned 12. Jennie and I are going up on Saturday to help Dora with the BD party. It seems like she was just a toddler, running from the puppy (who is a 10 year old chocolate lab now). Then on Tuesday Jennie and Jeff celebrated their 3rd anniversary. Today is my mom's birthday and she is doing great.
Next week one of my brothers is celebrating his wedding anniversary recuperating from a total knee replacement. Then my brother just younger than me will have his birthday, followed the next day by Vonda and Robert's 20th anniversary. Then Kylie will turn 9, and Jeff will be another year older, and finished with his classwork. He has an internship to complete, then he can take his board exams and be a licensed funeral director.
(June is as bad. TONS of birthdays then, but will post that all later)
Today my little 98 year-old neighbor fell in the bathroom, causing some skin tears on her arm. Her skin is so paper-thin that there is no way stitches would hold. Just try to slide it back in place and bandage it there. Tonight she is feeling stiff and sore, but in good spirits. She kept telling me how glad she is that I am next door. She refused the ambulance and even a ride to the doctor. Her daughter lives there, but she was at work. Her sister-in-law came to sit with her until her daughter could get home. It is nice to be available to help. It is nice to be retired so I can do that. She has a home health aid who comes in on Mon, Wed, and Fri, so she will have it looked at then, and then on the weekend, I will run over and check on her again.
Happy spring (?) to all.
